This month I was invited to be a part of the Five Fat Quarter Fun series with Amber & Amanda (Gigi's Thimble & Jedi Craft Girl). Boy, I tell you - it was a fun challenge to design a quilt using only five fat quarters plus a little yardage. I went through a few different options but quickly settled on this Argyle inspired quilt, called Preppy!
This is one of those quilts that looks more complicated than it actually is! And for those of you who haven't tried making a quilt on point before this would be a great time to try it!
Preppy finishes at 50" x 60", and uses 5 fat quarters and some yardage for the sashing and background. You can download the free PDF pattern HERE. It's available as a freebie for all newsletter subscribers.
I love these Gingham Girls prints (designed by Amy Smart for Penny Rose Fabrics) and I've been looking for just the right project to use them in. They were the perfect choice for this Preppy quilt. And I added in the navy swiss dot (from Riley Blake) as well.
The quilting is a design called Diagonal Plaid which I thought worked great with all of the other diagonal lines in the quilt, and it also added some great texture!
If you make a Preppy quilt I'd love to see it! Be sure to tag me (@abrightcorner) as well as Amber and Amanda (@gigisthimble @jedicraftgirl) and use the hashtags #preppyquilt and #fivefatquarterfun so we'll be sure to see it!
And if you've missed the other Five Fat Quarter Fun patterns, you can find them here on Amber's blog and here on Amanda's blog. They do a new pattern on the first of each month and it's so fun to see what they come up with each month! Have you made any of their 5 FQ Fun quilts??

Saw this on Diary of a Quilter and came straight over -- what a great design!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful design! But I started cutting this and I found that the pattern call for 24 blocks of each color, but the quilt calls for 30 colored blocks. I have to go shopping now.
ReplyDeleteI missed the second red fat quarter. But it does not make the same square unless you have extra blue for the squares. And I'd suggest buying more white fabric.
DeleteHi Daisy Quilts! Not every block will have a blue square in it. Some of my blocks had two yellow squares and two red squares. I'll add a photo of the full quilt to this blog post. --Andy
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous. Does anyone know how to increase the size to queen?
ReplyDeletemerci pour le PDF de preppy quilt pattern avec seulement 5 fat quater
ReplyDeleteThese patterns are so cute, I have made a carpenters star with fat quarters that was so cute, and fun, real scrappy, I made two, one for a baby girl, and one for a baby boy. Thanks for these patterns.
ReplyDeletePattern link not working
ReplyDeleteHi Linsey - I just double checked it and it seems to be working now. Give it another try!
DeleteThat's a wonderful looking quilt that would be great for American Heroes or any charity, as well as for gifts and wrapping up on a cold night! Thank you for the pattern link!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to make this quilt. Adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern! Do you by any chance have the requirements for making a quessn size quilt?
ReplyDeleteI don't, sorry!
DeleteYou could easily adapt this pattern yourself. I have made 15 quilts just by looking at a quilt I like. I use Graff paper to draw the design and find it quite easy. Good luck.😁
DeleteDo you, by chance, have a coloring sheet for this pattern? I'm thinking of doing sort of a '2-color' version, but want to color it out to see how it'll look. LOVE this - I'm planning to increase the number of blocks to make it a full size bed quilt! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Molly - I'm sorry but I don't have a color sheet for this one. But I do love your idea of doing a 2-color version!
DeleteRecently I was looking for something to make as a donation to a military kids' camp. The quilt needed to finish at 50x60, and could go to either a boy or girls between the ages of 6 and 17. When I saw this pattern I knew it was the perfect one. I used my scraps of red, white and blue with a black and white polka dot for the sashing. I loved it so much I have other color combos to do again! Thank you for offering this perfect pattern.
ReplyDeleteHello there! A savvy quilting shopper noticed a Kindle Unlimited book I shared had your quilt picture on the front. I wanted to make sure you knew about it as I feel that it might not be legit. This is my affiliate link to get to the book: https://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Quilt-Patterns-Quilting-Tutorials-ebook/dp/B0B3MLHQRR She stated she knew the name of the pattern but that it wasn't in the book. Also I LOVE your pattern and have printed it to make! I will also be sharing in our Facebook group Free Quilting Patterns - Spam Free Zone where we are trying to combat the growing number of spam free pattern groups on Facebook that don't give credit to the designers of the free patterns. Thanks! Erin@quiltingrebel.com
ReplyDeleteAh- thank you SO much! I didn't know about it and it's definitely a stolen image.
DeleteHello! I love this pattern. I recently made it but incorporated folded flowers from “Fantastic Fabric Folding” by Rebecca Watt. I used more fat squares because the folded fabric takes more fabric. But I loved the way it turned out. Thank you for the idea.
