Hello everyone! And welcome to those new friends that may be stopping by for the first time!
Today I get to share a project I made from a new book by Pat Sloan called, Tantalizing Table Toppers.
The pattern I used is called U-Pick and it makes a 45.5" x 45.5" table topper. However...that happens to be a great size for a baby quilt so mine will be used for that purpose!
Pat Sloan's Tantalizing Table Toppers book includes 12 projects of various sizes. Several of the projects are square toppers that would also be great as either a wall hanging or baby quilt like mine.
Here's a look at a few of the other projects in the book:
Martingale and Pat provided me a copy of the book to review and to use for my project. I had a hard time deciding which project to make first.
This topper (below) called "Life's a Picnic" was at the top of my list- I thought it would be so great in Christmas prints! It could even be used as a Christmas wall hanging.
In the end I decided on the U-Pick pattern:
My version of U-Pick is made with prints from the Dapple Dot fabric line by Riley Blake Designs.
Dapple Dot is a Riley Blake basic - and it's a good one! The scattering of little dots adds whimsy and interest without demanding as much attention as a true polka dot would. And they have some really beautiful colors available in this line of basics.
Dapple Dot colors used: Stargazer, Storm, Grape, Lilac, Chive, Lodgepole, Canyon Rose. Dapple Dot fabrics are now in stores, and you can find all the colors at the Fat Quarter Shop here.
Pat's U-Pick pattern is a fun, quick project, and the book is filled with many more!

ReplyDeleteIt’s hard to choose which size I like the best….. I love table runners, as they are very versatile and can be used on sideboards, etc. besides on a table. I love putting the square toppers on tables for a lovely centerpiece and they also are nice for wall hangings. So I guess I don’t have a favorite 😜 I probably have made more rectangle ones, though! ReplyDeleteI prefer rectangular quilts as I have no square tables in my house except a card table and that is usually stored away unless we're playing MahJongg and no quilt needed for that (makes it hard to push the tiles).

Your version is absolutely lovely, and such a great idea to have it be a baby blanket! As to my preferred shape, I have no square tables or spaces, but lots and lots of rectangular spaces/tables, so that's the shape I always choose. When necessary, I can make a square rectangular, or lengthen a too-short rectangle to fit the space where I want to use it.

I tend to make rectangular table toppers since I only have rectangular tables and countertops, however my son and daughter-in-law just got a round table for the dining room so some of Pat's square patterns will make a great gift for them. I really like a rectangular runner best as I use them more on the dining and sofa tables but for my smaller tables I do use square toppers. Your quilt is lovely. I already have 4 projects picked out so I really hope I win the book. :)
