Make Believe Lap Size Quilt

 Today I get to share a lap size version of the Make Believe quilt pattern that I just finished up last week. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen some behind the scenes shots of my progress as I worked.

For this quilt I had the opportunity to use some of the new Treasured Threads fabrics, designed by my friend Amber Johnson - who you might know better as the face behind Gigi's Thimble.

Amber is a talented pattern designer and book author and this is her first fabric line with Poppie Cotton fabrics.

The photo below doesn't show the whole line - these are just the prints that I had selected to use in my quilt. You can see all of the prints in the line here on Amber's blog. 

I love the bird silhouettes that are scattered in with the flowers on the larger main print, but my favorite print in the line is that smaller floral - especially in the pink. It's so charming! 

As soon as the fabric arrived, I knew I wanted to use it with the Make Believe pattern. 

Make Believe can be made with precut 5" squares, 10" squares, fat quarters or yardage  - and I used fat quarters for mine. The lap size Make Believe only needs 10 fat quarters but I wanted to use more of Amber's pretty prints so I used more like 14 or 15, and saved the leftover fabric to use on another quilt.

The pattern includes instructions for five sizes of quilt: crib, lap, throw, twin, queen. This lap sized Make Believe quilt finished at 56" x 67". 

The pattern gives the option of adding the background corner triangles in the center of each block (creates a "hole" in the center of the block). I like the look of it, but you can choose to omit them - which makes the blocks even faster to sew. 

For the backing I used a coordinating solid that I found at my local quilt shop. The binding fabric is one of the black small floral prints from the Treasured Threads line.  

And I have to mention the quilting! This is a new-to-me digital longarm design that I found from Ma Tante quilting she does longarm quilting, but she also has a pantograph shop. 

This design is called Sprig and it's now a favorite of mine! It's similar to some of the loop quilting I've used in the past but I love that there are little leaf shapes where the loops usually are. It's a fun one, and I'll be using it again.
