Hey friends I have some news to share today! After many, many requests from customers, I've given the Lofty quilt pattern an update!
The most obvious change is that it's got a brand new cover, and it is also now a full-color, booklet style pattern.
But if you take a closer look, you'll notice that there are now a lot more fabric options for you! That was the one most requested thing that you asked for. And I listened!
More Fabric Options
The Lofty pattern was originally written to be a fat quarter pattern but over the years I would often get questions about how to make it with other fabric cuts.
You can now make a Lofty quilt using:
- fat quarters
- fat eighths
- Layer Cake (10") squares
- or 1/3 yard cuts of fabric
Four Sizes
As like before, you have four size options to choose from in the Lofty pattern:
- Crib: 42" x 54"
- Throw: 54" x 72"
- Twin: 72" x 90"
- Queen: 90" x 90"
I've made the throw size more often than any other. I find it really is just the perfect size throw quilt - for me anyway!
Another question I often get about the Lofty pattern is if a special ruler is needed. And the answer is nope! Any straight ruler that is longer than about 8 or 9 inches will work just fine, and of course you'll need a rotary cutter and mat.
This is a fast, one-block quilt and it looks great in pretty much any fabric.
Through the years I've made several versions of Lofty. Most recently I made this one using a custom bundle that I found at The Garden of Quilts. I added in a few other prints and this quilt was the result. You can read more about it here (and see a pic of the fabric bundle).
This one was made in 2020 using a fabric line called Dream Weaver by Amanda Castor for Riley Blake Designs (this is the one that is currently on the pattern cover). Read more about this version here.
Here's an example of the crib size Lofty, made using 9 fat quarters. I sure love these colors, and wish I would have made this into a throw or twin size!
And here's the original Lofty quilt, a throw size made with Sundrops fabric - an older line designed by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics.
I backed this one in a gray minky fabric and it's a favorite around here. It mostly lives on the end of my bed and is often used, and well-loved. I took this photo below just last week - you can see how faded the quilt is now after being used and washed over the years!
After working on this updated pattern, I'm now itching to make another Lofty quilt.
I spent some time last week creating some different mock ups with other fabrics - these are all the throw size Lofty (54" x 72")
This one is using Sweet Acres fabric (designed by Bev McCullough for Riley Blake Designs)
This one uses Sunwashed fabrics (designed by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics)
Here's one mocked up in Unruly Nature (designed by Jen Hewett for Ruby Star Society)
And this one uses the Cadence fabric line (designed by Crystal Manning for Moda Fabrics).
And one more! This is mocked up in Sunnyside fabrics (by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics).
Find both paper and PDF copies of the Lofty pattern in my shop here. I also have PDF patterns in my Etsy shop here.
Quilt shops can order the Lofty pattern through Checker, EE Schenck, and Brewer distributors.
Love this pattern. Are you giving updates to those that already purchased the pattern?
