The Mod Mugs quilt pattern in Oh What Fun fabrics

Today I'm sharing a lap size version of the Mod Mugs quilt pattern. I actually finished this one up a few months ago and shared it on Instagram as a part of the Oh What Fun fabric tour with Poppie Cotton, but wanted to share it here as well!

These sweet Christmas fabrics are perfect for this Mod Mugs quilt - they're all medium- and small scale, they have a vintage feel to them and the colors are so cheery. The little pink Santa print is my favorite in the group!

For the lap size Mod Mugs you really only need 5 fat quarters but I wanted to add in more variety- so I think I counted a total of 15 different prints in this quilt.

You could also use Layer Cake Squares (10"), fat eighths, or yardage (1/4 yard cuts) to make a Mod Mugs quilt. 

The blocks are traditionally pieced (not foundation pieced) and are easy to put together.

The quilt pattern has an optional whip cream topper unit that you can add to your blocks, and I chose to add a few of those in too. 

To add the optional whip cream you'll need a bit more background fabric and some solid white fabric. (The back of the pattern cover lets you know how much of each you'll need - see it here)

And because I was going to add the whip cream toppers, I went with a light blue background that went perfectly with the Oh What Fun prints. The background fabric is Kona Sea Glass and the white solid that I used for the whip cream is Moda Bella 98.

The white whip cream contrasts a bit more in real life than it shows in these photos and I love the Oh What Fun prints with that blue background.

This is the lap size Mod Mugs, with 18 blocks. The pattern has four total size options: 

• wall hanging (or baby) 44" x 44"
• lap size 56" x 68"
• throw size 68" x 80"
• twin size 80" x 92". 

For the backing on this quilt I made a trip to my local quilt shop and found a coordinating cozy flannel fabric that would work well. Flannel is a great backing option if you want something a little heavier than quilting cotton, but not as bulky as a minky. 

The binding fabric is a mint green print that I found that looked good with the background and the rest of the prints. 

For the quilting I went with a computerized edge-to-edge design called Mod Dotz. It's one I've used often!
