Plot Twist Quilt Pattern

Introducing the Plot Twist quilt pattern - the newest addition to the A Bright Corner pattern shop. 

Plot Twist is a precut friendly pattern that includes five size options. It's a really versatile quilt pattern that looks great in medium and large scale prints, but can also work well with smaller scale prints and even solid fabrics!

One thing I love about this pattern is that it looks more complicated than it actually is. It may appear that the quilt includes Y-seams but I promise it doesn't!

Fabric Options for Plot Twist

The Plot Twist pattern uses:

• Layer Cake squares (10" squares)
• Fat eighths
• Fat quarters
• or yardage (1/3 yard cuts)

My favorite way to make a Plot Twist quilt is with Layer Cake squares (precut 10" squares) because some of the cutting is already done for you! 

But for this quilt in the photos I used fat quarters - which offers plenty of variety, and they're easy to quickly pick up at the quilt shop. No need to wait at the cutting counter!

Pattern Size Options

The Plot Twist pattern has five size options for you:

Crib (38" x 51")

Lap (51" x 63.5")

Throw (63.5" x 76")

Twin (76" x 89")

Queen (101.5" x 114.5")

This quilt in the photos is the throw size and I used 24 fat quarters. It's a really generous throw size so I made sure to add the lap size into the pattern for those of you that prefer a smaller throw quilt. 

Porch Swing Fabric

For this version of Plot Twist I used a stack of fat quarters from the Porch Swing fabric line (designed by Ashley Collett for Riley Blake). I love the large floral prints in this line but I admit it was the colors that caught my eye at first. 

They're rich and saturated without being too moody. The darker teal and black colors are offset by the light pink and teal prints and it's just a delightful color combination overall.

You can find Porch Swing fabrics currently in shops.

For the backing fabric I used a solid cotton fabric that I found at my local shop. The binding fabric is one of the darker teal prints from the fabric line, which frames the quilt up nicely. 

For the background fabric I didn't want to use the crisp, bright white solid that I usually use. I went with a creamier white this time - it's Moda Bella Off White (#200). It's a soft creamy white that still has some brightness to it, but goes really well with the Porch Swing prints. 

For the quilting I used one of my favorite computerized designs, called Soho. It's just a really great all-over swirl that works with so many different quilt patterns and fabrics.
