I have a fun and scrappy little quilt to share with you today - this is made using the Wholehearted quilt pattern and it is the crib size version.
Wholehearted is meant to be a sampler style quilt that uses fat quarters but I also added in extra details to the pattern to make it scrap-friendly too!
Back when I was writing the pattern I wanted to test out the scrappy instructions so I pulled out my green and blue scrap bins and got to work. And I can honestly say after making both a scrappy and a non-scrappy version that the scrappy one is my favorite to make!
This crib sized Wholehearted finished at 42" x 53"
The pattern also has instructions for throw size, twin size, and queen size quilts.
- throw: 56" x 77"
- twin: 70" x 89"
- queen: 98" x 101
If you'd like to make a scrappy Wholehearted too, in the pattern before each block I give a list of what you need to cut for that block from both the background fabric and the print fabrics. I wanted to make it easy for you!
I used some of my favorite classic quilt blocks for this pattern - there are really only six different blocks in this sampler quilt, but each block has several layouts or arrangements to choose from.
Every time you make this quilt it will be a little different depending on which layout you choose and how you arrange your blocks in the final quilt. I love being able to really customize a quilt like that.
For this quilt I found a super soft Shannon Cuddle fabric for the backing (color is Navy). The quilting is a computerized longarm design called Bubble Wrap Double Take. It's a great quilting option if you just want to add some texture without it demanding too much attention from the quilt.
For the binding I used an older Bonnie & Camille print that I had in my stash. I debated using a scrappy binding but was pressed for time so decided against it. I do love the look of a scrappy binding on a scrappy quilt though!

You can find Wholehearted patterns here in my shop - PDF option and paper option
If you're a shop owner, the Wholehearted pattern would make a great block of the month! (Patterns are available through distributors)

ReplyDeleteI, too, love your colors...wish my scrap bins looked like your scrap bins! Had to have the pattern, of course, but there are literally about 50 UFOs in my sewing room right now. Odds of me getting to this quilt before the new year are slim, I think.
