Midtown Quilt Pattern

Today I get to introduce you to to the new Midtown quilt pattern! It's the latest addition to the A Bright Corner pattern catalog.

Midtown is a precut friendly pattern with plenty of size options for you to choose from. And before you're frightened off by all of those little squares, I have to let you know that this pattern uses quick strip piecing techniques so those rows sew up fast!

And the Midtown pattern started as a scrap buster quilt so of course there are instructions for making a scrappy version too.

Fabric Options for Midtown

The Midtown pattern uses:

  • Precut 2 1/2" strips (jelly rolls)
  • Fat eighths
  • Fat quarters
  • yardage (1/4 yard cuts)
  • or scraps!

One of the fastest ways to make a Midtown quilt is using precut 2 1/2" strips since a lot of the cutting is already done for you. But the scrappy version is my favorite way to make a Midtown quilt!

I have a scrappy version of Midtown to share soon and I have another one planned. Heaven knows I have enough scraps on hand and I'd like to put them to good use.

Pattern Size Options

There are four size options for you in the Midtown quilt pattern:

  • Crib 46" x 56"
  • Lap 56" x 66"
  • Throw 66" x 76"
  • Twin 76" x 86"

This quilt in the photos is the throw size Midtown quilt and I used 25 precut 2 1/2" strips - that's less than a full jelly roll and it was great to have some strips leftover to use on another project (like a baby size Quartet quilt or Hello Washi quilt!)

To make the most of a Jelly Roll you can make the twin sized Midtown, which uses 33 Jelly Roll strips and makes a quilt that is 76" x 86" - or make two lap sized Midtown quilts from one Jelly Roll!

Strawberry Lemonade Fabric

For this quilt I used a Jelly Roll of the Strawberry Lemonade fabrics designed by Sherri & Chelsi for Moda Fabrics. After what felt like a long, cold winter I was so happy to bring these bright cheery colors into my sewing room.

The background fabric is Moda Bella 98 - a nice, crisp white that I use so often that I ended up getting a whole bolt of it

For the backing fabric I found a coordinating solid pink fabric at my local quilt shop. The binding fabric is one of the teal colored prints from the Strawberry Lemonade fabric line.

The quilting is a computerized longarm design called Abstract Butterfly.

It's a newer design for me but it stitched up beautifully and I'll be using this one again. It was designed by Karlee Porter and you can find it here.

Can you spot the butterflies? Sometimes my eyes see more of an orange peel design and sometimes the butterflies are easier to see.
