I'd like to officially introduce you to Cheer Up, the newest quilt pattern in the A Bright Corner pattern shop.
Back in 2014 when I first released the Cheerful quilt pattern, I loved the larger block size (perfect for those large-scale prints) BUT.... I knew that someday I wanted to write a version using the same block but scaled down to a smaller size.
And so Cheer Up was born!
I consider Cheer Up to be sort of a "little sister" to Cheerful. With smaller blocks and a different layout, she's just a bit sassier than her older sister.
The pattern uses either Fat Quarters (my favorite!) or yardage, and includes instructions for four sizes of quilt:
Crib: 50"x 56"
Throw: 68" x 77"
Twin: 68" x 87.5"
Queen: 86" x 98"
This version I'm sharing today is the throw size and used 12 Fat Quarters.
And here's a little peek at the quilt back -
My original inspiration for the colors in this quilt came from this sweet house print.
Its from a line called Make Yourself At Home (Kimberbell Designs / Maywood Studios.) I absolutely love it, but I couldn't use it on the front of the quilt because of the white background.
Any blocks using this print would just disappear right into the background. I wanted to use it in a way that would let it stand out.
So I decided to piece a fun quilt back and use the house print on the backing. It's been awhile since I've done a pieced backing like this and I'd forgotten how much I love the results!
Usually I just want to make the backing as fast as possible so I can move on to the quilting.
But in this case I'm glad I took the time to piece a backing. I love being able to enjoy that darling house print!
You can find both PDF (instant download) and paper Cheer Up patterns here in the A Bright Corner pattern shop.

Andy, this is just delightful, and I love the name! It certainly would cheer anyone up, and I’m pinning it right now to save for the next time I feel the need to do just that....cheer someone up! Everyone loves getting a surprise quilt in the mail when times are challenging. There’s just no keeping up with you! I marvel at how you can plant something in your brain for later, then actually do it!
ReplyDeleteI loved making Cheerful, but now wish I had waited for this pattern as I love the smaller block look.
