I have a new quilt to share with you today - which will be included in the February 2020 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine.

This is Solid Choice - a bold, modern star quilt made in all-solids.
You can find my project as well as many others in Issue 162 (Feb 2020) of American Patchwork & Quilting
I love playing around with more traditional star quilt blocks, but adding unique elements to them to give them my own spin.
After making these bold blocks, my first idea was to not use any sashing. But when I got them all arranged on my design wall the feeling was....spiky. Ha! I'm not quite sure how else to describe it! All the points of the stars were just too overwhelming for the look I was going for in this quilt.
So I played with adding different widths of sashing and landed on this one. I loved how the gray sashing helped to calm down the other bolder colors, and create a sort of frame around each block.
The fabrics I used are all Kona Cotton Solids. The colors used are: Denim, Prussian, Blush Pink, Emerald, Ochre, Cerise, Pool, White, and Iron (sashing & border).
For the longarm quilting I chose an edge-to-edge design called Two Simple. I felt it added great texture to complement the solid fabrics, without distracting from the angles in the star blocks.
I'm curious to see what this quilt would look like with prints. A Christmas version would be cool....or a wintery one in icy blues and aquas maybe? Or how about a patriotic version in scrappy reds and blues?
