I'm still working away on some Christmas projects for this year, but this quilt I'm sharing today was one I actually finished LAST year.
The Fast Track Pattern
For this Christmas quilt I used the Fast Track pattern. This was one of my tester versions of the pattern, and I made it because I wanted to see what a Fast Track quilt would look like using a limited color palette. I really love the red / white / gray color combo!
Use Fat Quarters or Other Precuts
The Fast Track pattern gives a LOT of options as far as what fabrics you can use (Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, FQ, or yardage) and for this quilt I chose to use yardage.
This lap sized quilt (53" x 61") calls for 1/4 yard each of 14 different prints. And you can see the ones I chose in the photo below.
Holliberry Fabrics
The prints I chose all come from a line called Holliberry designed by Corey Yoder in 2020 for Moda Fabrics. It's becoming hard to find, but I know there are still some available on Etsy.
A tip for choosing fabrics for the Fast Track quilt is to make sure the contrast print really does have a good amount of contrast to the other prints.
Finishing Details
For the backing I found a coordinating light gray solid in my local quilt shop. Since this quilt will be used in the wintertime I probably should have gone with a flannel or minky backing to increase the snuggle factor. But at the time I was stitching this quilt it was early October and snow, ice, and winter were still FAR from my thoughts.
For the quilting I used one of my favorite computerized designs, called Soho. It's a versatile edge-to-edge swirl design and it looks great when scaled smaller or larger - or in an average size like I used on this quilt.
For the binding I chose one of the charcoal gray prints from the Holliberry line. It frames up the whole quilt nicely, and looks good with the backing as well. Do you ever think about how the binding will look from the back? I usually take it into consideration, but how it looks from the front is definitely more important to me.
