Star Trails Quilt in Tulip Tango Fabrics

Well hello and happy Friday! I wish I could call this next quilt a recent finish, but this one has been done since July and it's taken me this long to get some good photos of it and add it here to my website.

This is the Star Trails quilt, sewn up using Tulip Tango fabrics.

I used a Jelly Roll of Tulip Tango fabrics (designed by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics), with the stars made from one of the charcoal gray prints in the same fabric line.

It was the gorgeous, saturated colors in this fabric line that first drew me to it. The rich magenta, pink, and green prints are beautiful - especially when contrasted with that dark gray!

In the Star Trails pattern you have two construction methods to choose from - a quick, strip-pieced style, or scrappy using basic foundation piecing techniques.

Since I was using a Jelly Roll for this quilt I chose to do the faster strip-pieced construction method.

If you've never tried strip piecing before this would be a great pattern to try out - I've included plenty of instructions and diagrams to step you through it.

There are two size options to the Star Trails quilt pattern and this one is the throw size and it measures 60" x 75".

This throw size used 30 Jelly Roll strips - and since a Jelly Roll comes with 40 strips, that allowed me to pull out some of the prints that wouldn't have as much contrast against the background fabric.

The pattern also gives the option for using fat quarters, yardage (1/4 yard cuts), or scraps. But the Jelly Roll strips are definitely the easiest since some of the cutting is already done for you!

For the background fabric I used Moda Bella 98, which is a nice clean, bright white.

The quilt backing is a solid green that coordinated with the prints, and I added some of the leftover Jelly Roll strips pieced into the solid green backing. I don't always do it, but sometimes it's fun to take the time to add details like that.

You can kind of see a bit of in in the photo below:

The quilting on this one is a new-to-me digital design called Tulip Garden. It was designed by Barbie Mills who sells her longarm quilting designs in her etsy shop here. She has some great pantos available!

I thought this Tulip Garden quilting design was the perfect fit for these Tulip Tango prints, and it stitched up beautifully. This style of quilting is a little more dense than what I usually do, but I love the end result and all of the lovely texture it adds to the quilt top!
