Tessa Quilt

I finished up a sweet little baby quilt last week and today I get to share it as a part of my turn on the book tour for the new Precut Parade quilt book by Jessica Dayon.

The pattern is called Tessa - it's originally written as a large throw size quilt (63" x 77") but I chose to make mine baby sized, with just four star blocks and nine of the plus sign blocks.

This size would also work as a wall hanging. Wouldn't it be great in Christmas colors, or reds and blues for summertime?

The Tessa quilt pattern is made up of two different quilt blocks - a star (Duck Paddle quilt block) and a Plus Sign block, and the blocks are set on point.

I love how the look of the star block changes when it's set on point and the contrast between the two different blocks is so good.

The fabrics I used are from the Fable fabric line designed by Jill Finley for Riley Blake Designs. The pretty pink floral prints are really lovely when contrasted with the charcoal and deep green prints! Fable precuts and yardage will be in stores this month.

There are 9 different quilt patterns in the Precut Parade book, all of them are precut friendly and organized by the type of precut.

There's a section for Jelly Roll strips, one for Layer Cakes and one for Fat Quarters. This Tessa pattern is in the FQ section of the book. You can see all of the quilts here.

Here's a look at the original Tessa quilt from the book - The yellow and blue color combo is so cheerful!

It would be fun to play with fabric placement on a pattern like this. If you use lighter prints for the Plus blocks they would recede into the background and allow the stars to stand out more.

I also debated swapping my color placement and using the pink prints for the Plus blocks and the grays and greens for the star blocks!

For the quilting I did one of my favorite loopy designs, called Knit 1 Purl 2. It's a really versatile design and it's definitely one of my most-used ones.

I wanted this baby quilt to be snuggly so I used a gray flannel on the backing and a cotton poly 80/20 batting. The binding is one of the darker green prints from the Fable fabric line.
