I'm excited to share with you all of the details about the Wholehearted quilt pattern! I'll also be sharing some mock ups I've created to give you some ideas on what you can make with Wholehearted.
The Wholehearted pattern is a sampler style quilt pattern featuring six classic quilt blocks, each set inside of a heart quilt block.
Each of the six classic quilt blocks also has multiple variations included in the pattern so you really can customize your own unique quilt.
Use your Fat Quarters
Wholehearted is a fat quarter quilt pattern but you can also use your scraps!
I've added in extra details to each set of block instructions to make it easier to make a scrappy heart quilt.
I love how a scrappy Wholehearted quilt looks - I have one to share with you in a few days.
Multiple Size Options
There are four size options in the Wholehearted pattern:
- Crib (42" x 53")
- Throw (56" x 77")
- Twin (70" x 89")
- Queen (98" x 101")
Love Note fabric
For this version of Wholehearted I used the Love Note fabric line (designed by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics). You can still find some here on etsy but it's now out of print so it won't last long!
Because of the size of the pieces in the inner blocks, I'd recommend sticking with small and medium-scaled fabrics or blender prints for this quilt. Of course you can always use whatever fabric you like, but a larger scaled fabric can sometimes disguise the shape of a quilt block and make your finished quilt quite busy looking.
For background fabric I used a solid white here, but if you want to see a version of Wholehearted with a darker background be sure to scroll down to see some different mock ups of this pattern.
For the quilting on this one I used a digital longarm design called Scribble Hearts. It's a sweet one, and it goes perfectly with this quilt!
For the backing fabric I used a coordinating aqua colored solid fabric that I found at my local quilt shop. The binding fabric is one of the blue prints from the Love Note fabric line.
Wholehearted Variations
Ready for some mock ups? These are always so fun to do!
This one is done in Sparkler prints (by Melissa Mortenson for Riley Blake Designs). I stuck with just the cooler colors of Sparkler-- the blues, greens, and purples.
And this one uses the new line by Lella Boutique (Moda Fabrics) called Lovestruck. It looks similar to the Love Note fabric but since this line is newer, it will be easier to find in stores.
You can find both PDF and paper copies of the Wholehearted quilt pattern in my shop.
And if you're a quilt shop owner, the Wholehearted quilt would make a great block of the month (patterns available through distributors)
